Testimonies

This place is truly a hidden gem! We traveled to Argentina from the USA. We originally chose La Oriental because of it's location, the farming/ranching aspect and horseback riding. We mentioned this when we booked and Maria, our host, made special arrangements for us to ride out to check cattle. Had it not rained, we would also have helped work cattle, but it was simply too wet. The horses were sound and Oscar was and excellent guide. He didn't speak English and we don't speak Spanish, but we still got along just fine! What pleasantly surprised us was the house and the food! It is hard to describe how unique the 1890s mansion really is. They have done an excellent job restoring the house and saving the original furnishings. The grounds around the house are wonderful as well and include beautiful gardens and pool. After dinner at night we sat outside, looked at the stars and admired the fireflies! Lastly, the food was absolutely amazing! Marta is brilliant in the kitchen. We had the best homemade ravioli, among other delicious dishes! We don't have a bad thing to stay about our stay. Maria, the host, was warm and friendly and spoke very good English and made sure we were comfortable at all times. We would definitely recommend for anyone who wants get a way from it all for awhile!

"We stayed here for 5 days as part of a long-planned holiday to celebrate my 50th birthday and our 20th Wedding Anniversary. La Oriental is a beautiful old house that really does give you a taste of grandeur. Our room and bathroom were spacious and furnished with the original antiques. The food was delicious and plentiful – thank you Marta for looking after us so well. We loved our leisurely breakfasts outside under the veranda. Our days were spent happily walking around the estancia, hearing the wind rustle in the mulberry trees and watching the birds; however, the real highlight was our daily ride. Miguel (coping patiently with our lack of Spanish!) took us out each day on the beautiful horses, riding across flooded fields and around the estancia land to inspect the cattle. My husband was a novice rider but felt very safe. Our favourite ride was out to El Carpincho Lake where we took a canoe out for a short paddle. At night time fireflies darted about in the garden and when the sky was clear the stars were amazing! Sadly, it was very rainy for our stay and not warm enough to use the pool which I am sure would have been delightful. Thank you Estela for being so helpful with all my pre-booking questions and in making the travel arrangements to take the overnight bus on to Mendoza. And thank you very much to everyone for making our holiday so very special! We will have to return!"

Neither words nor photos quite do justice to describing La Oriental, but take my word – it is marvelous! Our room was absolutely stunning, clean and decorated to perfection in luxurious antique furniture. The host Estela is so gracious and lovely to speak with. The food – truly the tastiest meat we tasted during our entire week in Buenos Aires! The chorizo is to die for. Also, we couldn’t get enough of the buttery croissants at breakfast. Marta offers seconds, thirds, whatever you desire, and always with grace and a smile. Miguel led us on a 2-hour horseback riding adventure throughout the property as well as a bike ride to the lagoon. Definitely visit during nice weather so you can enjoy the outdoor activity. We spent just one night – if we had more time, we would have spent longer, but it was truly a day in paradise and tranquility. I’ll be recommending La Oriental to all of my close friends. The only precaution I’d offer is when you get off the bus in the town of Junin (if you’re taking a bus from center of Buenos Aires like we did), try to make sure your taxi driver knows how to get to La Oriental from the Junin bus station. Best to have Estela’s phone number on you so you can give the taxi driver in case he needs directions. I can’t say enough amazing things about our experience visiting La Oriental! Definitely a highlight of our whole week in Buenos Aires
